Hi YNOT,
Welcome to the land of Tacos! Even if your coming from the land of Tacos!

In a nutshell Wahoo's, surf inspired and supporting the surf community for years!
I don't recommend them 'cause they’ve been a staple in the surf community here, I’m recommending them because they’re the best!

Directions to Wahoo’s Huntington Beach here
(there's other locations that are pretty close to Brookhurst, if you don't want to deal with the crowds downtown)

Directions to Wahoo’s Austin, Texas here
(although Austin appears to be a bit of a drive)

Hope this helps… Wink

and Good Luck in Volcom's "Frozen Nose & Sandy Toes" Contest

O.K., well first let me apologize about your avatar! I’m not sure why they won’t upload, but I’m looking into it.

Second, I am (we are) so stoked you know about Wahoo’s. I walked out into the shop and asked, (O.K., best taco place….???), everyone unanimously replied “Wahoo’s”, it was like surround sound for life adventures.
I went, yes,… yes I know, but who’s new and good… and I got the same reply, but louder!

Any "local" rules I need to know about Huntington Beach?

There’s only one and that is everyone you don’t know should say “Welcome”, because it’s people from outside Huntington Beach that make Huntington Beach into what it is today.

Since you and your daughter surf, there’s no reason to go into “surf etiquette”, same rules apply here as in every ocean. The fact that you ask shows that your more then courteous!!!

O.K. the crusty “hard core” guys are telling me that I’m #1, but the truth is without surfing and outside influences H.B. would not be what it is today!

AND is there any skate parks near the water?

Welcome to vert and street city!!!
Your within an hours drive of some of the MOST famous parks in the world!

Here are just a few...
San Diego's north county Y.M.C.A. (home to the famous)

Vans skatepark at Orange (combi-pool was inspired by the famous and now gone Upland Pipeline combi-pool)

Huntington Beach Skate Park (But, there's also a park right up the street )

Laughing

Thanks for the info. I luv the internet.

Are there pros who will do couple hours of coaching?

She is going to be surfing a different wave then she is use to here in Texas. I am not going to be much help to her as I am on our home waves.

She is in the "i wanna figure it out myself" stage and on different waves she may not have the time to figure it out. She may not listen to me, however she will listen to a coach or pro.

I have done a little looking and I find several how to surf skools. She doesn't need lessons, just need to rent a coach for a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon.

Ideas?

AND Im going to Austin this week for work, if I get a chance, Im going to Wahoos. Kinda forgot about that place untill you mentioned it.

Hi YNOY,
I talked to Ryan Simmons, who is the Katin Surf Shop team manger. Ryan, aside from being the team manager, also coaches people for competitive surfing. One of the cool things he does is to run "mock heats" which has been a very successful training tool.

Here's a feature on one of his students on Surfline

Ryan's winding down his pro career and when he's not coaching he can be seen announcing pro surf contests up and down the coast of California and golfing. A few years back I had the chance to hang out with Ryan at the Pipe House and surf with him for a week and he’s a real nice guy.

Send me a P.M. and I'll give you his number.
